The MacBook Air 2016 is almost hitting the market and expectations are very high. Although users have experienced the MacBook Air for quite some time now, display and design features haven’t changed much. Last year, there were rumors that the Macbook Air would be given a Retina display, but that didn’t happen. There have been many other speculations that didn’t come to pass. However, users are optimistic that the upcoming Macbook Air 2016 will receive some radical changes.
The 2016 Macbook Air: More Powerful, Lighter and Thinner
Fresh rumors are now predicting that the 2016 Macbook Air will be equipped with TouchID fingerprint recognition. Although this could be viewed as a wishful thinking, anything is possible you never know. If TouchID is availed on Mac through Continuity there are numerous third party apps that allow for Mac unlocking via your phone’s TouchID. Continuity allows the Mac to perform the activities you perform on your iPad or iPhone.
Users should also expect Siri to be available on the upcoming 2016 Macbook Air. It is a characteristic feature of iOS and maybe Apple could incorporate it on the upcoming Macbook Air generation. The mobile virtualized personal assistant was first witnessed on macOS Sierra. In addition, it could also come without a physical keyboard if a patent that has been filed by Apple is anything to go by.
Apple products including the new Mac could soon be equipped with touchscreen keyboards. It is not clear whether the super fast SSDs will be available on the upcoming device, but Optane SSDs from Intel are specially designed for Macs. However, users should expect anything from Apple.
The Versatile and Reversible Port
Word from a number of trusted sources reveals that the upcoming Mac will be much lighter and thinner compared to current models. Other expected changes are on cooling systems, USB-C, Intel Skylake processors and batteries. Users have already experienced the Macbook USB-C. It is thin as a result of removal of all the ports. If availed on the upcoming Air, the USB-C will help shave several millimeters off. Apple, Asus and HP are working to create laptops that use the new USB-C. According to some sources, Apple will incorporate the new USB-C in its forthcoming Macbook Air.
A most recent patent by Apple is looking to revamp Macbooks with Apple Pencil, which is characteristic feature of the iPad Pro. This feature is known to offer support to the Magic Trackpad. Although it might not provide the much needed support for the doodling size canvas, Apple Pencil could prove to be useful on Macbooks when it comes to objects moving in Photoshop or page turning documents in preview.
All about Skylake
Moving to Skylake processors is more important than the earlier Broadwell move. This is because Broadwell was more into energy efficiency and battery life than performance. Intel has revealed that, the likelihood of Skylake processors powering the 2016 MacBook Air is very high. This will make the Air to be 10 percent to 20 percent faster, last for a longer than Broadwell processors and have faster graphics of up-to 34 percent.
Moreover, Skylake has some additional advantages on its silicon sleeve that include support for WiDi and WiGig short-range, wireless charging as well as high speed data transfers. Although these features shouldn’t be expected in the forthcoming Macbook Air, there is a high possibility that they will be available in future Mac models.
Last year, there was a wide speculation that the Air could have a Retina display. This didn’t happen and now sources are suggesting that the 2016 MacBook Air will have a Retina display. However, if Apple decides to reduce the 13′ Air’s price, sticking a Retina might not be possible. If this happens, Apple will only be left with 13 and 15 inches MacBook Airs, 12 inch MacBook and the 13 and 15 inches MacBook Pro.
On the contrary, according to Chi Kuo, a KGI Securities analyst, Apple is planning to reveal a much larger Retina MacBook of up-to 13 inches. This will be in an effort to complement the lack of revitalized MacBook Airs. This means that, the 2015 MacBook Air will be left as the entry level model and MacBook Pro as well as the MacBook will be the high and mid-level tiers respectively. It is speculated that, such a move will act a slow MacBook Air lineup discontinuation and pave way for updated devices.

With all these updates on features, there is a high possibility that Apple will update the current MacBook Air prices. Some other rumors are suggesting that, sizes will increase, but prices won’t change and users are hoping for the best.
