Snapchat: You Don’t Need to Hold Your Thumb to View Stories

Introduction

Snapchat has been a great social app for taking photos that will be automatically deleted by the system. Of course, they will be only deleted if the receiver has not pressed the “capture photo” button or hasn’t screenshot the photo that you have sent to him or her. This “delete after several seconds function” has made the application even more fun, since you don’t have to worry about the photos going public. This means that you can send every nasty or socially not accepted by most people picture to your friend who will laugh a big one at it.

Snapchat and the “Thumb Hold”

Snapchat, however, had a pretty annoying function, or we can call it lack of function, since if you wanted to view one of your friend’s Snapchat story you could only do that by holding your thumb continuously on the touchscreen of your smartphone. This could make your finger hurt or get irritated, which could also lead to you being irritated or annoyed by that. Just imagine that one of your friends have put up a story that is 2 minutes long. However, now, Snapchat has released a brand new function, which is pretty simple. It will remove the necessary “thumb hold” and will change it to tapping. So, if you would like to view one of your friend’s story, you don’t need to hold your finger for the whole session of the Snapchat story, you can easily navigate between the photos or videos in the story by just tapping the screen.

Snapchat and Thumb Hold

This is a pretty simple and easy function that has been added by the software developer. They had already stated that people will love it. I’m on the exact same opinion as them, since not just Snapchat users, but all software and smartphone and tablet users like simple things. People tend to overcomplicate things, however, there is a simpler option to that or that activity that they tend to overcomplicate could be done in a much easier way, then most of the people would surely go with the easy option. So, that’s why I think Snapchat’s newest update, that have been released today, is a great thing and people will surely like it.

However, the question comes then, if this is a pretty easy update, then why Snapchat is releasing it just now? Why couldn’t they release it half a year ago or a month ago? I don’t think it would take a long time to code this function. I am not an expert of programming, however, I am sure that the coding of this simple feature could only take a 4-5 hours maximum for a person who is familiar with program languages.

Snapchat has also released an update to security functions in this patch. This has been a necessary move from them, since there have been many reports, even from famous people, that people have hacked into their accounts and have stolen the pictures that they have sent to other persons. Snapchat is adding a two-factor authentication to prevent the latter things from happening.
