YouTube is currently celebrating its 10-year anniversary. The website is posting videos in the next 26 days, in which they will highlight one of the most memorable moments in the site’s history.
The Birth of the 3rd Biggest Website on the Internet
YouTube, as defined by alexa.com (one of the most popular website metric site), is the 3rd most popular website on the internet. Quite a great accomplishment, huh? It could be pretty hard to reach such a high place on the internet. Just try creating a fresh, new website. If you will check after the creation it will be shown nowhere in alexa.com. Why? Because there are billions and trillions of websites on the internet and if you try to create yours that obviously has no traffic, it will be placed at the end of the line, behind almost all websites on the internet.
YouTube has started its “career” with the first video that has been uploaded on the website. This event has happened on the 23rd of April, 2005. However, at this date the website was only in a beta state, so the official release of YouTube was at May the same year. That’s why the website is celebrating its 10-year birthday in May, not in April.
It is quite impressive what YouTube has achieved in 10 years. There are websites on the internet who remain on almost on the same position in 10 years, even with big marketing campaigns. However, YouTube has achieved to be at the top 3 positions of the internet websites. With this achievement Google, YouTube’s owner, is generating more and more income from the website. With YouTube being present on the market, Google can place several high-paying ads on the site and on the videos in different forms, which a user has to watch in order to see the video. This can be quite frustrating and annoying for the end users, however, the company has to generate profits somehow and this is great opportunity to do so. YouTube is currently planning to change its business plan since there is software present on the internet, which are helping users not to see the advertisements on websites. This is currently cutting down YouTube’s income, so they need to change plans. The website is planning to introduce a monthly subscription plan, which will enable users not to see ads. YouTube will be free, however, but those who don’t really want to pay will be unable to watch the videos without ads.

Why is it good to be at the top of the websites of the internet? How top websites are calculated? Website rankings are calculated by the traffic that is going through on the site. It is pretty easy to create a metric from those details and it is quite easy to understand them too. Answering the first question that has been written at the beginning of the paragraph, being at the top of the internet (or Google) comes with many benefits. Firstly and obviously, you will get much higher traffic by staying in the top internet websites than in the bottom of the internet. With higher traffic, you can generate higher income, of course if you are smart to do so. With higher income higher profits come, and so on.
